THE GREELEY STAMPEDE
This is the world’s largest 4th of July rodeo and is a popular activity for residents and visitors alike.
GREELEY FREIGHT STATION MUSEUM
Railroad enthusiasts, take note! The Greeley Freight Station Museum features a 5,500 square foot HO gauge model railroad layout, more than 20 scale miles of mainline track, hundreds of buildings and thousands of hand-made trees and scenery. There are about 175 locomotives on the layout which are all powered and over 2,000 cars such as box cars, gondolas, tanks, flats, passenger cars, and more! Most weekday operations are performed under docent mode by a computer but usually on Fridays and Saturdays the railroad is being operated as a prototypical railroad and engineers will be operating the trains and being dispatched – yes, just like the real railroad. The museum will also feature more than 1,100 railroad artifacts from across the United States.
THE KRESS CINEMA & LOUNGE
The Kress Cinema & Lounge is Greeley’s first independent art film theater – combined with a full-service bar to provide both film viewers and bar patrons high-quality beverages, snacks and hors d’oeuvres. Located in downtown Greeley, in the historically renovated Kress Building, the theater takes advantage of the high, decorative plaster ceilings to create a large viewing space with historic ambiance.
The Kress Cinema & Lounge is a truly unique experience for every customer with our comfortable theater, full-service bar, and intimate seating area. Customers can order from a bar menu and dine while watching a movie. The theater programming is diverse – with foreign, classic, cult, and alternative content – complementing major holidays and local events. The full bar and restaurant serves the audience before and after shows and is open nightly to bar patrons, whether viewing the film or not.
The Kress Cinema is equipped with a digital projector, a 35mm projector, a certified surround-sound system and a screen approximately 20 feet wide. The digital projector, in addition to screening films, is available for local businesses for presentations or parties, and private rental groups can be served by the restaurant and bar. With high-quality digital projection, in combination with the traditional 35mm format, The Kress Cinema screens movies from classics to cult, and exhibiting the best in art, foreign and independent films.
PAWNEE NATIONAL GRASSLANDS
Spanning 193,000 acres, this short grass prairie offers opportunities for recreation, wildlife study, sightseeing, photography, and bird watching. The Pawnee Butters tower 250-feet above the prairie and are a popular destination for hikers and horseback riders. This huge expanse of government-owned grasslands can be explored by car, mountain bike or horseback. Nearby camping facilities are offered.
POUDRE RIVER TRAIL
The Poudre River Trail is 21 miles of a well maintained paved pathway for walking, cycling, running, roller-blading and more. The trail extends from Island Grove Regional Park in Greeley to Colorado Highway 392 in Windsor where it connects to the paved trail in Larimer County’s River Bluff’s Open Space. The trail is open to the public and includes informational signs that highlight many of the historical sites and educational opportunities to visit along our trail.
CENTENNIAL VILLAGE MUSEUM
Attracts visitors from around the world. The museum is a collection of vintage homes, a church, schoolhouse and other structures on five-and-a-half acres that date back from pre-settlement days into the early 20th century. The village is open primarily from April–October — it’s worth planning a visit to town just to see it. You can also visit the historic home of Nathan Meeker, credited with being the town’s founder. The 1835 Fort Vasquez, on Hwy., 85 between Denver and Greeley, will also give you a good idea of what life was like before Westerners permanently settled the area.
FAMILY FUN PLEX
The Family FunPlex is located in the Twin Rivers Community Park and features a water park, miniature golf course.
ANTIQUE WASHING MACHINE MUSEUM
Grab some laundry and get ready for old washing machine heaven. Lee Maxwell’s definitive and amazing museum includes a database of antique laundry machines from Acme to Zenith, with dozens of brands in between (including old favorites like Maytag, Kenmore and Sears). There’s also a patents archive, a virtual tour, detailed manufacturer data and special features like the “agitator alley” photo gallery. If you’re into laundry-related antiques, don’t miss seeing them all at the museum!
GREELEY HISTORY MUSEUM
The museum is housed in the beautiful Beaux-Arts style Greeley Tribune building built in 1929. Within the brick walls you will find amazing exhibits telling the story of Greeley and old Weld County. The Hazel E. Johnson research center is also located here.
PATRICK’S IRISH PUB
Patrick’s Irish Pub won the Best Local Bar award in the Greeley Tribune’s 2011 Hot Picks. More specifically, it’s a great place for folks to get together, enjoy great beer with great friends and not to mention, great music!
UNION COLONY DINNER THEATRE
The Union Colony Dinner Theatre is located in the heart of downtown Greeley. The family oriented environment and intimate space allows the personal touch and the elegant facility provides each of the 110 seats with an unobstructed view of the stage. The delicious dinner is catered by Tastebuds Epicurean Suite and served by the actors. An ample array of mouth-watering desserts is available at intermission.
GREELEY ICE HAUS
A City of Greeley facility for ice skating and is open year-round.
HIGHLAND PARK LANES
This bowling center offers 32 lanes plus a full service lounge and the 59th Avenue Grill. Bumper bowling for children is always available. Moonlight bowling is offered on Saturday nights and open bowling specials are available on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
MEEKER HOME MUSEUM
Built for Nathan C. Meeker, the founder of the Union Colony and the City of Greeley, this stately Adobe home contains numerous, 19th century period, home furnishings and and Meeker family belongings. Open Tuesday–Saturday from mid-April through mid-October.
